NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Murray Rudisill and the Old Dominion men's golf program announced the signing of Filip Wetterqvist on Wednesday.
Wetterqvist, a native of Sweden, will join the Monarchs for the 2019-20 season.
"It is great to have another golfer from Sweden," said Rudisill. "He will join our rising junior, Gustav Fransson, here next year. Filip has attended the same high school as Gus and has an outstanding record in golf and also in academics. He plans on working on a business major while here at ODU. I expect Filip to have an immediate impact on our starting lineup."
During his youth career, Wetterqvist posted several top finishes in 2018, including winning a Swedish Teen Tour event at the Wermdo G&CC and shooting his best 36-hole score (69, 71) at the Koping Open on the Oakley Tour.
Wetterqvist also helped lead the Stockholm Golf Club to back-to-back Swedish Junior Team Championships in 2016 and 2017.
