NORFOLK, Va. – Aziz Kijametovic and Francois Musitelli took down three nationally ranked tandems en route to advancing to the semifinals of the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Doubles Championships.

“I’m very happy for Aziz and Francois,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “They keep improving as a team and they have been knocking on the door for a while now. After making the main draw at the All-American, they have established themselves as one of the best doubles teams in the country with this semifinal run. It was a great finish to our tournament schedule this fall and should give us confidence as a team to start the spring.”

Right out of the gates, Kijametovic and Musitelli defeated the No. 5 ranked doubles team in the country, Johannes Schretter and Will Little of Baylor in the first round (4-6, 6-2, 1-0(5)).

In the second round, Kijametovic/Musitelli proved to be too much for No. 11 nationally ranked Christian Sigsgaard/Harrison Scott from Texas (7-6(4), 6-3).

In the quarterfinals, ODU’s tandem handled business against USC’s No. 40 Daniel Cukierman/Tanner Smith (6-7(4), 7-5, 1-0(2)).

Kijametovic/Musitelli fell in the semifinals to eventual National Champions from UNC Asheville Oli Nolan/Henry Patten (1-6, 6-7(5)).

This concludes the fall portion of the ODU men’s tennis schedule. The Monarchs will kick off the spring schedule on Friday, Jan. 18 against Temple at 1:00 p.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
