EL PASO, Texas - The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (7-6-4, 4-3-2 C-USA) played UTEP (7-8-3, 2-5-2 C-USA) to a 2-2 draw at University Field on Sunday night. The Monarchs extended their unbeaten streak to six, as their last loss came on Sept. 28th. Sunday marked ODU’s seventh overtime match of the season.

“We started very well and were worthy of the early lead,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “From there, I was a bit disappointed we didn’t step on and really take control. Instead, I felt we let them back into it and they are a team that can cause you problems if you do that as we found out.”

In the fifth minute, Natalie Johnson scored her third goal of the season off a pass from Talia Tapper (second assist of the season) to give the Monarchs an early 1-0 lead.

Anna Jimmerson finished a Cayla Payne cross to tie the match for the Miners in the 26th minute, 1-1. The goal was the first surrendered by ODU in its last 528 minutes, it also snapped the five match shutout streak for the Monarchs.

Lauren Crenshaw gave the Miners a 2-1 lead heading into halftime after scoring her seventh goal of the season in the 44th minute off a free kick. ODU held a 4-2 lead in corners after the opening 45 minutes.

Emily Roberts scored the equalizer in the 79th minute off a corner kick from Iris Achterhof to tie the match at 2-2. The goal was Roberts second of the season and Achterhof’s sixth assist of the year.

“Down 2-1 in the second half, I thought we were dominant and pushed and totally deserved the equalizer,” Hind continued. “In overtime we looked so dangerous but just couldn’t convert any of the good chances we had. I’m really proud of how we came back strong tonight and again showed great resilience. This is a huge point for us as a tough place to play. "

After 90 minutes, Old Dominion held a 6-2 advantage for corners.

For the match, the shot count was even 8-8, while the Monarchs held a 6-4 advantage for corners.

Old Dominion will wrap up the regular season at home for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 28 at noon.
