BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (5-6-3, 2-3-1 C-USA) played Florida Atlantic (8-6-1, 5-0-1 C-USA) to a 0-0 draw at the FAU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night. The Monarchs outshot the Owls 24-10. Old Dominion has not allowed a goal in its last 322 minutes of play. Florida Atlantic entered the match 5-0-0 in league play and had won its last six contests.
“This was another great team performance against a very good team,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “Of course we are disappointed not getting the three points, especially given the way we went at them, but I’m really proud of the team and the effort we gave tonight. FAU was tough to break down defensively, so credit to them. We need to recover now and get ready to play again Sunday at home."
ODU dominated the shot count in the first half, 11-4, and took three of the four corners; however, the score remained 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes.
Old Dominion held a 20-9 shot advantage after full-time.
During the two overtimes, the Monarchs outshot Florida Atlantic 4-1 (3-0 in second OT).
Thursday night marked the third consecutive shutout for the ODU defense and freshman goalkeeper, Jasmine Crawley (two saves at FAU).
On Sunday, Oct. 14, Old Dominion will return home to host UAB at the ODU Soccer Complex for a 1:00 p.m. start. The match will stream live on C-USA TV.
The Monarchs will wear pink warm-ups before Sunday’s contest in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer.
