NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion (3-1-1, 1-0-0 C-USA) men’s soccer topped Charlotte (2-1-0, 0-1-0 C-USA) on Friday night by a 2-1 final score. Two seniors in Ryan McLaughlin and Max Wilschrey notched goals for the Monarchs.

"I'm really proud of my guys, their resilience and coming back from a goal down and finding a way to get one back right away. Then jumping on the opportunity to score a really good goal to win the game. I'm very pleased," said head coach Alan Dawson.

The first half remained scoreless with just four shots by the Monarchs and three by Charlotte.

Charlotte opened the second half with a goal by Tommy Madden. Just four minutes later, McLaughlin answered the Charlotte goal off a free kick sent from Sebastien Hauret, which tied the game.

In the 55th minute, Hans Kroschwitz passed the ball to Wilschrey, who knocked one past the 49er defender and goalkeeper to take the lead for ODU. Wilschrey now has six goals in the 2018 season.

Redshirt senior James Ellis Jr. made his first career start for ODU, while freshman Daniel Corona saw time for the Monarchs for the first time.
