NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's soccer team (2-2-2) fell VCU (4-2-0) by a 2-1 score at the ODU Soccer Complex on Thursday night in front of 932 fans, which marked the third largest crowd to watch a home match in ODU women’s soccer history.
Old Dominion got on the board, when Amanda Nhek settled a rebounded save and blasted the ball into the VCU net in the 32nd minute to give ODU a 1-0 lead. The goal was Nhek’s second of the season and assisted by Carla Morich.
VCU tied the match in the 45th minute, when Idelys Vazquez scored from the middle of ODU’s box.
The Monarchs outshot the Rams 8-2 in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Old Dominion held a 4-2 advantage for shots and 2-1 corners, but neither team could find the net.
In what turned out to be the third overtime match of the season for ODU, it was VCU who ended the game in the 92nd minute off a goal from Samantha Jerabek, who scored from outside the box.
For the match, the Monarchs outshot the Rams 12-6.
ODU will next travel to Durham, N.C. for a Sunday, Sept. 9 showdown against No. 14 Duke (4-1-1) at 5:00 p.m. on the ACC Network/ESPN3.

Duke is coming off a 23-2-1 season a year, in which the Blue Devils advanced to the national semifinals, before losing to UCLA on PK’s. Duke enters the week nationally ranked No. 14 with a 4-1-1 record:

-at No. 8 Georgetown: T, 0-0
-Elon: W, 3-0
-Marquette: W, 2-0
-Providence: W, 2-1
Last season, the Blue Devils defeated the Monarchs by a 3-1 score in Norfolk.
