NORFOLK, Va. – In the Conference USA opener, the Old Dominion women’s soccer team’s (3-4-2, 0-1-0 C-USA) comeback fell short in overtime at LA Tech (8-3-0, 1-1-0 C-USA) by a 3-2 score on Friday night at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

“They started the game putting us under real pressure and took their opportunities well, so credit to them as they were simply more aggressive than us,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “However, I am really proud of how we fought back into the game and to score late in the first half gave us some momentum heading into the break. We really pushed in the second half and the goal from Morgan was well deserved for the pressure we had them under. I thought we could have finished the game as we had a few chances to do so in regulation. We found ourselves on the wrong side of the outcome again in overtime and that needs to change. It’s certainly not lack of effort.”

Amber Poshthauer’s first goal of the season gave the Lady Techsters an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.

Five minutes later, Kaylee Zettler extended LA Tech’s lead to 2-0, as Mylene Rou-Oullet was credited with the assist.

Iris Achterhof struck just before halftime in the 44th minute to pull the Monarchs within one, 2-1. The goal was Achterhof’s second of the season. Natalie Johnson picked up her team leading sixth assist.

At the half, ODU outshot LA Tech 9-5 and took the only two corners of the opening 45 minutes.

Morgan Hall tied the match at 2-2 in the 76th minute, marking Hall’s third goal of the season, which is tied for team lead.

After 90 minutes, Old Dominion held a 16-12 shot advantage, while the Lady Techsters took four of the five second half corner kicks.

Three minutes into overtime, Jaelyn Peeples scored the game-winner off a corner kick to lift LA Tech to a 3-2 victory.

“We will recover and have an extremely determined group here and we will be ready on Monday,” Hind concluded.
