NORFOLK, Va. – On the final night of the 43rd ODU Soccer Classic, the No. 25 Old Dominion (2-1-1) men’s soccer team fell to Temple (1-2-0), 1-0. 

The first half remained scoreless between the two at the ODU Soccer Complex.

In the 57th minute, Temple’s Elias Villegas was handed a red card. Despite playing a man down the remainder of the match, in the 64th minute, Zach Brown sent a header past Mertcan Akar to take the lead in the second half.

Freshman Daniel Bloyou took five shots in the Sunday match.

After both Sunday night matches, VCU won the ODU Soccer Classic team championship after an OT win over Santa Clara. A head-to-head tie breaker had to be in, ODU finished in third behind Temple. The MVP went to Siad Haji of VCU. Haji scored the game-winning goals in both of their tournament games. 

Senior Max Wilschrey and redshirt junior Sebastien Hauret were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The soccer Monarchs take the pitch as they host C-USA foe Charlotte on Friday, September 7 at 7 p.m. This game will be a rematch of the 2017 C-USA Conference title game.
