Wilschrey Leads ODU Past New Mexico, 2-1

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Old Dominion (4-1-1, 2-0-0 C-USA) men’s soccer team topped New Mexico (2-5-0, 0-1-0 C-USA) on the road by a 2-1 final score. Max Wilschrey led the Monarchs with two goals in the Saturday night match.

In the second minute of the match, Wilschrey scored a goal that was sent past the goalkeeper. Just 18 minutes later, Wilschrey added one more sent from Sebastien Hauret to extend the lead for ODU. This is Wilschrey's third game with two or more goals. The senior now owns eight goals this season. 

Five minutes after Wilschrey’s second goal, the Lobos answered to close their two-goal deficit.

After one half of play, ODU owned 10 shots to the Lobos seven. In the second half, ODU and New Mexico both took three shots but neither scored a goal in the remaining 45 minutes of the match.

Akar collected four saves en route to the ODU win over the Lobos. The junior now owns 11 saves this season. 

Freshman Daniel Corona made his first career start for the Monarchs. Redshirt junior Hauret owns three assists this season.
