NORFOLK, Va. – ODU lacrosse head coach Heather Holt announced the promotion of Maggi Buckley to assistant coach after serving as volunteer assistant for the past year.

“I am thrilled to welcome Maggi back to our coaching staff. Maggi is one of the most passionate and hard working coaches I know," Holt said. "She is a natural leader and will be an amazing mentor for our players. I am very excited to have Maggi start her coaching career with our program and return to the Monarch family!"

As a volunteer assistant, Buckley worked closely with the goalkeepers and helped guide the Monarchs to the ASUN Tournament for the fourth-straight season.

“I'm very honored and excited for this opportunity. I've always seen myself coaching lacrosse but I never thought that it would be at the collegiate level,” said Buckley. “This will be a huge stepping-stone for me and I am very eager to learn as much as I can. I am looking forward to being a part of a competitive program and working with this talented team!"

Prior to joining the coaching staff, Buckley was a standout goalie on the Monarch lacrosse team from 2014-2017. She started in every game her junior and senior year in goal and collected 468 saves, which is fourth best in the ODU record book. As a junior, Buckley earned second team All-ASUN and second team VaSID All-State. She also helped guide the Monarchs to their first-ever NCAA appearance after winning the ASUN Conference Tournament in 2016.
