NORFOLK, Va. -- Head coach Mallory Hetzel and the Old Dominion women's golf program announced the addition of Jana Melichova for the upcoming 2018-19 season on Thursday.

Melichova, a Czech Republic native, is currently ranked third in the amateur rankings for her home nation. A member of the Czech Republic National Team, Melichova is also ranked 68th in the European amateur rankings and 180th in the world.

"Jana has a wealth of national and international tournament experience," said Hetzel. "She has proven to be one of the best players in the world and we are thrilled she has chosen ODU."

Over the course of her amateur career, Melichova has racked up the tournament honors and accolades. She was the low amateur at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open in France in April and also won the Raiffeisenbank President Masters in the Czech Republic. Melichova also placed fifth at the Czech International Amateur Championship, which was won by recently-graduated ODU star Katerina Vlasinova, and finished third at the German International Amaetur Championship.

"Jana will make an immediate and lasting impact on our program," continued Hetzel. "Not only is she a great golfer, but she's an even better person who I know will be a good teammate and leader."
