RICHMOND, Va. -- Kyle Battle and Matt Schwarz both homered, but Old Dominion fell to VCU, 9-3, on Tuesday evening at The Diamond in Richmond. ODU and VCU split the midweek season series.
Old Dominion (15-34) got on the board first on Culver Lamb's sac fly in the top of the first. However, VCU (32-31) answered with runs in the first and second to take a lead that the Rams would not relinquish. Leading 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, VCU busted the game open with a four-run sixth.
Schwarz (2-5, HR, RBI, 2 R) and Battle (2-4, 3B, HR, RBI) both hit solo shots, while Erik Stock (2-4, 2B) also notched a multi-hit game for the Monarchs.
On the mound, Jason Hartline (4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) received the loss, despite a career-high four strikeouts. Overall, ODU pitchers walked seven batters, six of which came around to score.
Last week, ODU defeated VCU, 7-1, in Norfolk.
Up next, the Monarchs head to LA Tech for their final games of 2018.
