NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion heads to Houston for a conference series against reigning Conference USA Tournament champion Rice at Reckling Park this weekend.
The Monarchs (10-17, 3-6 C-USA) are still searching for their first series win of the season. ODU has won six consecutive Sunday games.
ODU is hitting .293 as a club, which ranks 35th in the nation and third in the conference. Four Monarchs are hitting over .300, including true freshman Erik Stock (.345, 1 HR, 8 RBI) and Culver Lamb (.333, 4 HR, 16 RBI), who leads the team in extra-base hits. Vinnie Pasquantino (.294, 3 HR, 22 RBI) has been the top run producer.
On the mound, Morgan Maguire (2-2, 3.32 ERA) will get the nod in the series opener, the first Friday start of his career. Saturday and Sunday's starters are TBA.
Rice (12-19, 2-7 C-USA) leads the all-time series, 7-5. However, last year, ODU swept the Owls in Norfolk, before falling to Rice in the conference tournament in Biloxi.
