FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Old Dominion women's golf team finished in third place at the Conference USA Championship this week at the Verandah Club in Fort Myers, Florida.

"Today’s back nine in no way diminishes the outstanding accomplishments of this group," said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "We are disappointed with third place because we are competitors that expect to win."

ODU, who won last year's title, entered the final day four strokes behind champion UTSA, but the Roadrunners carded an even round of 288 to pull away for the crown. Old Dominion (+27) posted a 13-over round on Tuesday, finishing 17 strokes behind UTSA (+10) and four strokes behind second-place UTEP (+23).

Individually, Katerina Vlasinova (+5) recorded a top-10 finish, placing eighth. Vlasinova had the best round of any Monarch on Tuesday with a 2-over 74.

Sana Tufail (+7), Charlotte De Corte (+9) and Maggie Simmermacher (+11) all finished in the top 25, as Tufail tied for 17th, De Corte placed 22nd and Simmermacher finished 24th. Abigail Portyrata (+14) finished in a tie for 31st.

UTSA's Julie Houston (-4) won individual medalist honors.

"As we look back on the year there are so many prideful moments," said Hetzel. "We will miss Kate and Maggie but know that because of them we have a great opportunity to have a successful program for years to come."
