NORFOLK, Va. - Holly Hutchinson of the Old Dominion women’s tennis team was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week, as announced by league officials on Wednesday. This is the third time this season Hutchinson has claimed the award.
Hutchinson took down a nationally ranked player, No. 123 Rosie Cheng, in straight sets in singles to help lift Old Dominion over No. 42 nationally ranked William & Mary in the regular season finale. Hutchinson is now 12-7 in the No. 1 singles slot for the Monarchs.
ODU is nationally ranked No. 44 and has won nine of their last 10 matches, outscoring opponents 57-7 during the stretch. ODU has also won six in a row, while outscoring opponents 36-3.
Hutchinson and Tennis Monarchs received a No. 3 seed in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament and will first take on No. 14 seed UTEP on Thursday, April 19 at 12:00 p.m. EST at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Admission for all is free.
