NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team improved to 3-0 after downing Lynchburg by a 4-0 score at the ODU Soccer Complex in the third spring game of the season for the Monarchs. ODU has now outscored its opponents 8-0 in the spring so far.

The first goal was scored in the ninth minute, when Gaby Bentley was first to a bouncing ball and pushed it over the Lynchburg back line. Kyra Ricks split two defenders, was first to it in the box and slotted it past the goalkeeper to give ODU an early 1-0 advantage.

The second goal came moments later in the 10th minute, when Morgan Hall earned ODU a corner kick. Iris Achterhof served up a ball far-post, in which Talia Tapper got around her defender and headed the ball in the back of the net to give ODU a 2-0 lead.

A Kira Laurento cross was headed out by the Lynchburg defense for an ODU corner kick in the 69th minute. Iris Achterhof sent another ball to the far post, in which Talia Tapper again was first to it and deflected the ball into the net, lifting the Monarchs to a 3-0 lead.

In the 83rd minute, Emma Gervase earned a foul in front of the ODU bench. Maddie Morningstar took the free-kick, allowing Natalie Johnson to fly through traffic at the penalty-kick spot and head the ball towards the far post to seal the deal on Old Dominion’s dominating 4-0 victory.

This marked the Monarchs third consecutive shutout in as many spring games.

Old Dominion’s next game is Saturday, April 14th at 2:00 p.m. versus James Madison at the ODU Soccer Complex. Admission for all is free.
