NORFOLK, Va. – Vincent Schneider, a senior on the ODU men’s tennis team from Mannheim, Germany, was named the Conference USA Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by conference officials.
Schneider was instrumental in the Monarchs upsetting the No. 24 ranked team in the country, Utah, by a 4-0 score. In No. 3 singles, Schneider downed Slava Shainyan in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). In No. 2 doubles, Schneider and teammate Javier Jover Maestre clinched the coveted doubles point with 6-4 victory. Schneider is now 8-4 in singles. Two weeks ago, ODU defeated No. 14 Dartmouth in New Hampshire.
ODU has now claimed the weekly award four of the eight weeks so far this season.
Old Dominion will return to action on Friday, March 9, when the Monarchs will take on Utah State in Tampa Bay, Fla. at 9:00 a.m.
