JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Old Dominion women's golf team cruised to the team title at the UNF Collegiate this week at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.
"We are very excited to win a tournament," said head coach Mallory Hetzel. "More importantly, we played a lot of high-quality golf and made positive strides towards future successes."
The Monarchs (E) finished 19 strokes ahead of second-place Chattanooga (+19) after carding a 5-over 293 as a team on Tuesday.
Four of ODU's five players finished in the top 11, led by Abigail Portyrata (-2), who finished fourth, and Katerina Vlasinova (-1), who finished fifth. Portyrata and Vlasinova were two of just five players to finish the tournament under-par.
Maggie Simmermacher (+1) tied for sixth and Charlotte De Corte (+2) finished in 11th. Rounding out the ODU lineup was Sana Tufail (+15), who tied for 46th.
Up next, ODU heads to Johns Island, South Carolina, for the Briar's Creek Invitational March 18-20.
"We are looking forward to a new event on our schedule in Briar's Creek" said Hetzel. "It is a phenomenal golf course with a challenging field."
