NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion just could not come up with the big hit at the right time and fell to William & Mary, 5-2, in midweek action on Wednesday evening at the Bud Metheny Complex.
The Monarchs (9-14) had 10 hits on the night, but were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
For William & Mary (9-16), Hunter Smith's two-out, three-run homer in the fourth inning that gave the Tribe a 5-0 lead proved to be all of the offense W&M would need.
Offensively for the Monarchs, Brian Morley (2-4, HR, 2 RBI) drove in both of ODU's runs, including a no-doubt blast to left field that landed on the roof of the Jim Jarrett Athletic Administration Building.
Kyle Battle (2-4, BB), Erik Stock (2-5) and Will Morgan (2-4) also notched multi-hit games.
On the mound, Trey Fisher (1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) received loss, allowing a run in 1.1 innings of work in his first career start.
Up next, ODU hosts Middle Tennessee this weekend in Conference USA action. Game one on Friday is set for 6 p.m. ET.
