NORFOLK, Va. – Jannik Giesse (Ketsch, Germany) of the Old Dominion men’s tennis team was named the Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by league officials. ODU has claimed five of the 10 weekly awards so far this season.
Giesse, a freshman, did not drop a set while going 3-0 in singles play against three Conference USA opponents (Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic and Charlotte). Giesse and the Tennis Monarchs have now claimed victory in seven of their last eight matches, while outscoring their opponents 32-11 during that stretch. Old Dominion is now 3-0 against Conference USA opponents so far this season. Giesse is now 12-2 in singles. Old Dominion is now 13-6 overall and nationally ranked No. 31 (first in C-USA).
Old Dominion will return to action next week on Friday, March 30 against VCU in Richmond, Va.
