Women's Golf in Seventh Through 36 at Briar's Creek

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. -- Through 36 holes at the Briar's Creek Invitational in South Carolina, the Old Dominion women's golf team sits in a tie for seventh in the 17-team event.

The Monarchs (+12), who are coming off of a team title at the UNF Collegiate two weeks ago, carded a 7-over 295 in the opening round followed by a 5-over 293 in the second and are six strokes ahead of 37th-ranked East Carolina (+18). No. 29 North Carolina (-11) leads the event.

Individually, Charlotte De Corte (-2) turned in a pair of 1-under rounds and is tied for sixth. De Corte was one of just 14 players of the 90 in the field to finish the first day under par.

Maggie Simmermacher (+2), ranked 76th in the latest individual rankings, is tied for 24th and Noemie Sudron (+4), competing as an individual, is tied for 33rd.

Rounding out the ODU lineup were Katerina Vlasinova (+6, 45th), Sana Tufail (+7, 52nd) and Abigail Portyrata (+9, 59th).

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final 18 holes. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a.m. ET.
