PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Old Dominion men's golf team finished in a tie for third at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate this week at the Pinehurst No. 8 Course.
The Monarchs (+36) finished two strokes behind champion Radford (+34).
ODU entered the final day in the lead, but carded a 9-over 293 to fall back to a tie for third place with Dayton (+36). Overall, the Monarchs had 37 birdies for the tournament, which led all teams.
Individually, Calvin Greschner (+7) was the highest-placing Monarch, tying for sixth.
Nick Rencis (+11) and Chad Hess (+12) both made huge climbs up the leaderboard on the final day. Rencis fired a 1-under 70 to finish in a tie for 18th and Hess carded a 2-under 69 to finish in a tie for 20th.
Rounding out the Monarch lineup were Gustav Fransson (+13, 24th) and Michael Bakker (+20, 45th).
Up next, the Monarchs head to Williamsburg for the Kingsmill Intercollegiate March 25-27.
