No. 35 Women's Tennis Travels to Marshall Sat. and WVU Sun.

NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 35 Old Dominion University’s women’s tennis team (9-3) is set to travel to West Virginia to face off against conference foe Marshall on Saturday, March 3 at 1:00 p.m. at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center and West Virginia on Sunday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the Summit Tennis Academy.

The Monarchs have an overall singles record of 50-14, an overall doubles record of 20-9 and a national ranking of No. 35. Below is a recap of the early season success for Old Dominion.

Meet Marshall
John Mercer is in the midst of his 16th season as the head coach of the Thundering Herd tennis team. Since his tenure began in 2003, Mercer has led his team to at least 10 wins in every single season. Last season Marshall finished with record of 14-10 and fell in the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament against Western Kentucky. At the end of last season, Marshall was the home of Conference USA Player of the Year, Derya Turhan. The Thundering Herd enter Saturday’s match with an overall record of 0-10.

Meet West Virginia
Head coach Miha Lisac is in his fourth season at the helm of the program. Last season, the Mountaineers finished with an overall record of 4-16 in which they faced eight opponents that were ranked in the top 50 of the ITA National Rankings. The highlight of West Virginia’s season last year was a win against Marshall, ending their four-match losing streak in the series. This season, the Mountaineers have won as many matches as they did last year so far, holding a 4-3 record.

Looking Ahead for the Monarchs
After the conclusion of the two-match road stretch, the Monarchs will host their remaining seven matches at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. They will also host the 2018 Conference USA Tournament which will begin on April 19 and will run through April 22. ODU looks to finish the season off strong at home for the remainder of the season.
