PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Through 36 holes of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, Old Dominion men's golfer Nick Rencis sits in a tie for third, three shots off the lead, at the Classic Club in Southern California. As a team, the Monarchs are tied for 11th.
Rencis (-8) fired a 4-under 68 for the second straight day. The New Jersey native carded three birdies and an eagle and currently sits ahead of four top-50 players.
Following Rencis, Calvin Greschner (+4) is tied for 57th and freshman Gustav Fransson (+5) is tied for 68th. Greschner was 1-over for the day, while Fransson was 2-over.
As a team, the Monarchs (+9) were 4-over for the day and sit just one shot out from being in the top 10 of the 23-team field. 19th-ranked California (-27) leads the event by 15 strokes.
Michael Bakker (+8, t-93th) and Chad Hess (+10, t-107th) round out the ODU lineup.
