NORFOLK, Va. - Michael O’Brien has been named the general manager of Old Dominion Sport Properties, ODU Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig announced on Wednesday. ODU Sports Properties is the exclusive marketing and multimedia rights partner of ODU Athletics.
O’Brien comes to ODU after working with the O’Brien Marketing Group, which he started in 2013. He handled business development, event management, and marketing for a variety of clients in the sports and entertainment landscape.
Prior to that, he worked for Madison Square Garden selling and creating corporate entertainment solutions for more than 250 events per year at the "World's Most Famous Arena." O’Brien was also instrumental in developing and selling unique hospitality assets for the newly renovated facility and maintained partnerships with more than 30 corporations.
O’Brien also worked for the Washington Redskins for a year prior to working with MSG as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing and was responsible for regional/national brand sponsorship sales and servicing.
Earlier in his career, O’Brien honed his sales and marketing expertise with the Colorado Rapids, Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, and Strategic Sports Group in a variety of roles.
