NORFOLK, Va. -- The Nikki McCray-Penson era officially begins on Friday, Nov. 10, when the Old Dominion women's basketball team hosts Liberty at 4 p.m. at the Ted Constant Center in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT.
Old Dominion returns seven players from a season ago, including veteran seniors Ashley Jackson and Odegua Oigbokie, who are the team's top returning leading scorers. McCray and the Monarchs also welcome in a four newcomers, headlined by Hofstra transfer Kelly Loftus. Joining Loftus as newcomers are true freshmen Dejah Carter, Victoria Morris and Lovie Harden.
ODU has won four of its last five season openers and has not dropped a season opener at home since 2009-10, when the Monarchs fell to No. 2 Stanford. Last year, Old Dominion defeated Norfolk State, 65-54, in the opener at The Ted.
Overall, the Monarchs boast a 370-94 all-time record against Virginia schools. Last year, the Monarchs went 3-1 against the Commonwealth with the lone loss coming to William & Mary.
With a win, ODU advances to play the winner of No. 23 Michigan and George Mason in the quarterfinals. With a loss, ODU drops into a four-team consolation pod with opponents to be determined.

ABOUT LIBERTY
Coming off of a 13-17 season, Liberty returns 10 players, including four starters, and was picked to finish second in the Big South in the preseason poll. Sophomore center Keyen Green, a preseason All-Big South selection, led the team last year with 12.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. ODU is 2-0 all-time against Liberty, defeating Liberty by 20 or more points in 2008 and 1997. Both wins came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
