BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 25 Old Dominion (13-6-2) men’s soccer team fell to the No. 2 Indiana (16-0-5) Hoosiers in the second round of the NCAA Championship, 3-0.
The Monarchs held off the Hoosiers from scoring until the 36th minute, when Grant Lillard scored one off a header.
In the 49th minute, the Hoosiers came back for another goal by Mason Toye.
Indiana added another in 63rd minute to give the Hoosiers a 3-0 win.
The Monarchs took nine shots, while Indiana took 17.
Offensively, Hans Kroschwitz, Tyler Edwards, and Max Wilschrey took two shots apiece.
Max Wilschrey ends the season with eight goals, leading for the Monarchs.
Old Dominion ends their season having their best record since 2007, when they finished 14-7-3. They won their second C-USA Title as well as earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2014. The Monarchs blanked NC State in the first round of the NCAA Championship, 2-0.
Mertcan Akar finished his season with 10 shutouts for the Monarchs. Overall, Akar had 82 saves this season. Akar made six saves against Indiana.
