NEW YORK -- Old Dominion field hockey freshman Cameran Nery-Strickland has been named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Nery-Strickland recorded two assists in Old Dominion's 4-0 victory over Big East foe Temple on Friday. The Virginia Beach native also helped the Monarch defense post its first shutout of the season, as the backline held Temple to just three shots.
As a true freshman, Nery-Strickland has played in all 12 games, including seven starts, this season. She leads the team in assists with six and has now recorded an assist in four of the last five games.
The weekly honor is the second for ODU this season. Sophomore forward Alexa Ostoich was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 28. Read the full release from the Big East here.
Nery-Strickland and Old Dominion return to action this weekend with home games against Quinnipiac on Friday and No. 18 William & Mary on Sunday.
