NORFOLK, Va. – Jacob Nicolussi (Nova Levante, Italy) of the Old Dominion men’s tennis team was named the Conference USA Tennis Player of the Month on Tuesday afternoon by conference officials.
Nicolussi won two different tournament titles to kick off the fall season. In the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, he and teammate Michael Weindl ran through the doubles draw unblemished, taking down tandems from Minnesota, Nebraska, Arkansas and Iowa along the way to claiming the doubles crown. In the same tournament, he also picked up singles wins against opponents from Virginia Tech and Minnesota.
Then this past weekend in the Monarch Invitational, Nicolussi went a perfect 4-0 in singles play to win the singles draw. The senior from Nova Levante, Italy downed opponents from Richmond, William & Mary (twice) and Duke. For the month, Nicolussi finished 4-0 in doubles and 5-2 in singles for a combined 9-2 record and a winning percentage of 82%.
