POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- Chad Hess tied for second individually and the Old Dominion men's golf team finished third at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate this week at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, North Carolina.
The annual ODU-hosted tournament closes out the fall slate for the Monarchs, who have now placed in the top three at the event in three consecutive years.
Hess (-7), a senior, led the Monarchs individually, tying for second. In the opeing round of the tournament on Sunday, Hess fired a seven-under 64, which was tied for the best round of the entire tournament. Hess finished two strokes behind individual medalist Ray Kraivixien (-9) of Campbell.
Michael Bakker (-3) also registered a stellar performance for ODU, tying for 10th. Bakker posted a one-under 70 in all three rounds.
Rounding out the ODU lineup were Gustav Fransson (+3), who tied for 29th, Calvin Greschner (+9), who tied for 57th, and Nick Rencis (+13), who tied for 73rd.
Kyle Reid (+6), Chandler Wilkins (+10) and Antonio Cruz-Conde (+16) also competed as individuals for the Monarchs.
Campbell (-31) won the team title for the third consecutive year and also set a new tournament record for team score.
