NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion (8-4-4, 5-2-2 C-USA) punched its ticket to the 2017 Conference USA Tournament after downing second place North Texas (11-3-2, 6-1-1 C-USA) by a 3-1 score on Sunday afternoon at the ODU Soccer complex. The loss was the first in C-USA play for the Mean Green this season.
Both teams attempted five shots in the scoreless first half, while ODU held a 2-1 advantage for corners. Krista Moisio made two saves in the opening 45 minutes for the Monarchs.
In the 70th minute, Carla Morich scored her first collegiate goal to give ODU a 1-0 lead.
Natalie Johnson scored her fourth goal of the season off a Morich corner, which Johnson headed into the Mean Green net in the 82nd minute to give the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage.
Aaliyah Nolan cut NT’s deficit in half, 2-1, when she scored her sixth goal of the season in the 84th minute.
Madison Hogan sealed the deal for ODU in the 90th minute with her first goal of the season to lift the Monarchs to a 3-1 victory on Sunday afternoon in Norfolk. Hogan’s goal was assisted by senior captain Jackie Stroud.
Old Dominion will be back in action for the regular season finale and Senior Night on Friday, Oct. 27, when the Monarchs host Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. The match will be streamed on beIn Connect (online only).
