ODU Falls to No. 23 Rice, 7-2

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (7-4-4, 4-2-2 C-USA) fell to No. 23 nationally ranked Rice (11-2-1, 8-0-0 C-USA) by a 7-2 score on Thursday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. The loss was the first in the last 11 matches for the Monarchs.

Marissa Topolski finished a Nia Stallings lead pass off a counter from an ODU corner to give Rice a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.

Three minutes later, in the 22nd minute, Annie Walker played a corner into the middle of the box, which found Samantha Chaiken for her eighth goal of the season to give the Owls a 2-0 advantage.

Three minutes later off a set piece, Walker fed Erin Mikeska to stretch the advantage to 3-0 in the 25th minute.

Demi Maris got Old Dominion on the board in the 44th minute off a Carla Morich corner which first was touched inward by Natalie Johnson before Maris cleaned it up making the score 3-1 at the half.

In the second half, Rice scored goals in the 55th, 59th, 60th and 66th minutes to take a 7-1 advantage.

In the 75th minute, ODU’s Morgan Hall scored her first career collegiate goal.

For the match, Krista Moisio made four saves.

Old Dominion will welcome North Texas (10-2-2, 5-0-1 C-USA) to the ODU Soccer Complex on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1:00 p.m., which will air on C-USA TV. All dogs are welcome for Sunday’s match. NT hasn't lost a match in its last 11 outings.
