IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion men’s basketball guard Ahmad Caver (Atlanta, Ga.) was named to the All-Conference USA Preseason Team on Thursday afternoon.
Last season, Caver was an All-Conference USA Third Team honoree. He was named team MVP, while leading the squad in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game. In C-USA play, he increased his points per game average to 14.4. Caver also led the team in assists with 150 for a 4.9 average per game, which ranked fourth in the conference.
His +2.32 assist to turnover ratio ranked third in Conference USA. He also led the team in steals with 41 for the season for a 1.3 average per contest. Caver averaged 3.5 rebounds per outing a season ago and his 35.3 minutes per game ranked third in the C-USA. At Marshall (Jan. 5, 2017), the Atlanta, Ga.-native scored a career high of 26 points. Caver started all 31 games for Old Dominion in 2016-17.
To promote the 2017-18 Conference USA basketball season, C-USA will announce two student-athletes to the league's annual preseason teams in a series of releases, which began on Monday, Oct. 16. Stay tuned each day as the conference will present one male and one female student-athlete leading up to the squads' full unveiling on Thursday, Oct. 26, which will include the final two men's team members and the women's C-USA Preseason Player of the Year.
The league's annual preseason polls will be released on Friday, Oct. 27, with the 2017 C-USA Basketball Tipoff Event & Reception presented on ESPN3 coming Monday, Oct. 30, at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
