Monarchs Play Southern Miss to 1-1 Draw in Hattiesburg on Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (7-3-3, 4-1-1 C-USA) played Southern Miss (6-6-2, 0-4-2 C-USA) to a 1-1 draw on Friday.

Natalie Johnson scored her second goal of the season in the 21st minute off a half volley to give ODU a 1-0 lead. The Monarchs would take the 1-0 lead with them into the locker rooms at halftime. Both teams attempted five shots and three corners in the opening 45 minutes.

Southern Miss tied the contest at 1-1 in the 51st minute off a Stephanie Garcia goal, assisted by Kaitlin Fayard and Kierstin Bradley.

Despite outshooting the Golden Eagles 5-1 in the two overtime sessions, neither team would score, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

For the match, ODU outshot USM 16-10, while both squads attempted eight corners. Krista Moisio made four saves in goal for Old Dominion over the 110 minutes.

The Monarchs have lost just one match in their past nine outings and are off to its best start ever in Conference USA play.

Next up, the Monarchs will take on LA Tech (9-2-4, 2-1-2 C-USA) in Ruston on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
