EL PASO, Texas – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (6-3-2, 3-1-0) defeated UTEP (6-7-0, 2-2-0) by a 2-1 score at University Field on Sunday night.

"This was a real nice performance from the team tonight,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “It's a very difficult place to play but I thought in the first half we played with such discipline and composure and scored two quality goals. In the second half they put us under pressure as expected but we dealt with it and were resilient when we needed to be. I am really pleased with two wins on the road this weekend."

ODU struck first in the 41st minute when Demi Maris finished a shot through traffic assisted by Madison Hogan to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later in the 44th minute, defender Jackie Stroud scored her team leading fifth goal of the season to stretch Old Dominion’s advantage to 2-0 at the half. Stroud’s goal was assisted by Carla Morich.

At the half, ODU dominated the shot count (10-1), while holding a 6-0 advantage for shots on goal.

In the 48th minute, the Miners cut ODU’s lead in half, 2-1, as Kennadie Chaudhary scored off a Lauren Crenshaw assist.

The Old Dominion defense would hold UTEP scoreless the rest of the way to earn the 2-1 victory in El Paso on Sunday night.

For the match, ODU held a 19-8 advantage for shots taken and 12-3 advantage for shots on goal. The Monarchs also took seven corners to the Miners’ two.
