NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team hosts Big East foe Georgetown and plays at No. 2 Duke this upcoming weekend.
The Monarchs (3-4, 0-1 Big East) host Georgetown (5-3, 0-1 Big East) on Friday at 5 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex, as both squads vie for their first conference win of the season. ODU then closes out the weekend with a showdown against No. 2 Duke (6-1, 1-1 ACC) in Durham on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The matchup against the second-ranked Blue Devils will mark ODU's fifth game against a ranked opponent this season, including the third against a top-10 team. The Monarchs are 1-3 against ranked foes so far this season.
Erin Huffman leads the Monarchs in scoring with 12 points on six goals. Alexa Ostoich ranks second on the squad with 10 points on four goals and two assists, while Preseason All-Big East selection Danielle Grega leads the team in assists with three.
Defensively, goalkeeper Kealsie Robles has played all but six minutes in net. Robles has amassed 44 saves and posts a 2.55 goals against average.
Overall, the Monarchs are scoring 2.29 goals per game and have outscored their opponents, 11-5, in the first half this season.
ABOUT GEORGETOWN
The Hoyas (5-3, 0-1 Big East) are coming off of a 1-1 performance last weekend that concluded with a 5-1 victory over Towson. In the opening game of the weekend, Georgetown dropped its Big East opener to Quinnipiac, 2-1, at home. Freshman Cami Osborne leads the team with six goals. ODU is 4-0 all-time against the Hoyas, including a 5-0 win last season.
ABOUT #2 DUKE
No. 2 Duke (6-1, 1-1 ACC) enters Sunday on a three-game winning streak with all three victories coming over top-25 foes. Last weekend, the Blue Devils earned wins over No. 11 Louisville and No. 15 Princeton. Duke's lone loss was a 4-1 defeat at No. 10 Virginia. Junior forward Rose Tynan leads the Blue Devils in scoring with 13 points on six goals and an assist.
