RICHMOND, Va. – A Kira Laurento goal in the 102nd minute lifted the Old Dominion women’s soccer team (4-2-2, 1-0-0 C-USA) over Richmond (0-7-0, 0-0-0 A10) by a 2-1 score at Robins Stadium on Sunday evening. ODU’s 4-2-2 start is the Monarchs most wins through eight matches since 2009 (4-4-0) and best start since 2008 (started 8-1-0).

Sunday night marked the fourth consecutive double-overtime match for Old Dominion.

"I am thrilled with the win tonight,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “Our second half and OT performance was excellent. Considering this was our second double overtime in 3 days I am so proud of how strong we finished the game. We showed real determination to get the win and there is no doubt as a team we really came together and dug deep tonight. Their goalkeeper made some great saves, but we didn’t panic, instead just kept pushing and got the winning goal I thought we deserved."

In the 15th minute, Jackie Stroud gave ODU a 1-0 lead after Iris Achterhof played a low corner pass into the box, which Stroud finished for her fourth goal of the season.

Richmond’s Brooke Beam tied the match at 1-1 in the 39th minute off an assist from Alyssa Walker.

The Monarchs outshot the Spiders 9-4 in the second half; however, neither team would score, sending the game into overtime.

ODU held an 8-1 shot advantage and led the corner tally 4-1 in the first overtime.

1:19 into the second overtime, Kira Laurento finished off an Iris Achterhof header set up by a Cristina Bashara service, giving the Monarchs a 2-1 victory on Sunday in Richmond, Va. The goal was Laurento’s second of the season.

Iris Achterhof dished out all three assists for the Monarchs in their two wins this weekend.

For the match, ODU held a 21-8 advantage for shots and an 8-4 advantage in corners.

Sunday marked the first of four straight road matches for the Monarchs. Old Dominion will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 22, when they take on Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton at 7:00 p.m.
