NORFOLK, Va. -- Erin Huffman scored twice as No. 25 Old Dominion University Field Hockey overcame an early deficit to defeat Richmond 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Richmond (0-5) scored two minutes into the contest on a corner with a goal by Florentine Beelaerts van Blokland. Eight minutes later Old Dominion (3-3) tied the score as Huffman netted her first goal of the game on a shot to the left of the goalie.
Amie Olton gave the Monarchs the lead shortly after with a goal off a corner, with the assists to Danielle Grega and Rebecca Birch. A few minutes later, Huffman notched her second goal of the game, as Grega dribbled along the base line, she fed Huffman in the middle who slid it past the keeper on the left side for the 3-1 ODU lead.
Alexandria Brewer scored her first career goal in the 54th minute to give ODU a 4-1 lead. The play started with a shot by Brewer that was saved and Julia Demeester deflected the ball back to Brewer who this time put it in the back of the net.
van Blokland added a goal three minutes later for the Spiders for the final 4-2 margin.
ODU outshot Richmond, 16-7 for the day, while UR goal Felicitas Heinzel made 10 saves, as ODU keeper Kealsie Robles made two saves. Backup goalie and penalty shot specialist Lacey Frazier made a save on a Richmond penalty shot.
