RICHMOND, Va. – Despite outshooting the Rams 10-4 in the second half, the Old Dominion women’s soccer team (2-1-0) suffered its first loss of the 2017 season at VCU (2-0-0) by a 3-1 score on Thursday night at Sports Backers Stadium.

"VCU was the better team in the first half, they started strong and were probably worth the 2-0 lead at halftime,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “I thought the second half was much better from us, we caused them a lot of problems and had them under pressure and that pressure resulted in the goal from Gaby. Then I felt we were in a good position to get back on level terms. As you push there is always the risk of a breakaway and unfortunately that's what happened and their third goal late really killed the game for us.”

The Rams struck first in the 24th minute off a Lyndsey Gutzmer goal. Two minutes later in the 26th minute, Amanda Tredway extended VCU’s lead to 2-0, which the Rams carried into halftime.

In the second half, Old Dominion sophomore, Gaby Bentley, scored her first collegiate goal in the 79th minute to cut the Monarchs deficit in half, 2-1.

Tresway’s second goal of the contest occurred in the 87th minute to ultimately propel VCU to a 3-1 victory on Thursday night in Richmond, Va.

For the match, the Monarchs held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, while the shot count was tied, 11-11. Krista Moisio recorded three saves on the night for Old Dominion; VCU’s Audrey Sanderson was credit with four saves.

Old Dominion has outscored its opponents 8-4 in its first three matches.
