With no practice on Monday's during camp, ODUSports.com will feature a Q&A with true freshman wide receiver, Amari Colbert.
Q: What sports did you play growing up?
AC: Basketball, football and soccer.
Q: What made you pick football?
AC: That was the sport that came easier. I was good at basketball and I was good at soccer, but when I played football everything felt like it just came easier because all you were doing is running.
Q: Have you always played receiver?
AC: I played quarterback and safety my first two years of high school, and safety I didn’t really like. So I asked my coach what position can I play that I will still be able to play and he told me receiver. After that I loved receiver.
Q: What player in the league do you try and model your game after? If any?
AC: Brandon Marshall. He is a big dude and he is not that fast so he wins off technique, not speed.
Q: Why did you chose Old Dominion?
AC: I only took two official visits. I took one to Ohio and loved it but then I committed to Western Kentucky but I never took a visit there. Then I thought maybe I should take a visit to ODU. My Momma said maybe I should try ODU because she had been to Norfolk before and she liked the scenery. So I came up here, met Coach Wilder and everybody and it’s been a wrap since then.
Q: Who would you say has had the biggest impact on your football career?
AC: My brother. He always told me from the beginning finish what you start. There were times when I didn’t even want to play football, I was the basketball guy. But he told me “Bro you started it so you’ve got to finish it. Another thing he would always tell me is “Give Momma the life style she has never had.”
Q: What is your favorite movie?
AC: Boyz in the Hood.
Q: What is your favorite food?
AC: Steak
Q: Who is your favorite football team?
AC: New York Giants
Q: Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
AC: Odell Beckham Jr.
Q: What is the number one goal you want to achieve while here at ODU?
AC: Become a better person.
