NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's soccer team remained perfect on the young season with a 3-0 victory over Albany on Sunday evening at the ODU Soccer Complex.
"I think right from the start we controlled the game," said head coach Angie Hind. "We moved the ball well tonight, we created opportunities and we were patient, so I was really pleased."
Jackie Stroud, Emily Roberts and Talia Tapper all scored for Old Dominion (2-0), as the Monarchs have outscored their opponents 7-1 through the first two games of the season.
Stroud opened up the scoring, converting a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Senior forward Madison Hogan drew the PK, after being taken down from behind inside the box. The goal was Stroud's third of the season, which leads the team.
The Monarchs carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, ODU added a pair of insurance goals, as the Monarchs outshot Albany (0-1), 11-4, in the second half. Tapper's goal in the 59th minute, the first of the sophomore's career, doubled the Monarch lead, as the midfielder finished from six yards out on a set piece. Iris Achterhof collected the assist, her second of the season.
Freshman Emily Roberts rounded out the ODU scoring, nailing home a corner kick from classmate Morgan Hall in the 87th minute. Roberts' goal was also the first of her career.
Overall, the Monarchs outshot Albany, 17-10, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Krista Moisio picked up the victory in net, making four saves for her first shutout of the season and the sixth of her ODU career.
