CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Old Dominion head coach Mallory Hetzel has been named the 2017 VaSID Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the state of Virginia, the organization announced this week.
In addition, juniors Maggie Simmermacher and Katerina Vlasinova were named to the All-State First Team.
Hetzel, in her first season at the helm of the ODU women's golf program, led the Monarchs to their first conference championship in women's golf history and first bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Conference USA Coach of the Year, Hetzel guided Old Dominion to four top-10 tournament finishes and had two players named all-conference. Off the course, all five of Hetzel's starters achieved C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction, as they collectively posted a 3.59 cumulative team GPA.
Simmermacher, a junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, lands on the VaSID All-State Team for the third time in her career. A Second Team All-C-USA selection, Simmermacher recorded two top-five finishes on the season, including a runner-up finish and subsequent All-Tournament Team selection at the C-USA Championship and a fifth-place result at the UNF Collegiate.
Vlasinova, a junior from Trebic, Czech Republic, earned her first all-state honor of her career. A First Team All-C-USA selection, Vlasinova registered a pair of top-five finishes at the Brickyard Collegiate and the C-USA Championship and also landed on the C-USA All-Tournament Team.
