NORFOLK, Va. -- The postseason awards continue to pour in for Old Dominion junior second baseman Jared Young.
Young, who was selected in the 15th round of the MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs earlier today, has been named a Perfect Game/Rawlings Honorable Mention All-American, the organization announced on Wednesday.
In addition to this honor, the Canada native was also named a Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball News and was a First Team All-Conference USA selection and the league's Newcomer of the Year.
In his first season at Old Dominion after transferring from Connors State Community College in Oklahoma, Young led the Monarchs in 11 offensive categories, including average (.367), triples (4), home runs (7), runs (57), stolen bases (9) and OPS (1.021). He also set a new ODU single-season record for hit by pitches with 18.
Young also hit a scorching .433 in Conference USA games, which led the league by over 20 points. In the field, Young committed just six errors in 58 games at second base for a fielding percentage of .974.
