NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (14-4) hosts two matches this weekend starting with No. 38 Georgia State on Saturday, April 8 at 12:00 p.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The Monarchs will be back in action on Sunday, April 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center to take on Charleston (12-5) for the home finale of the 2017 regular season.

The Monarchs are coming off a two-week break after they defeated Conference USA foes Middle Tennessee and Charlotte.

ODU’s top singles player, No. 37 Adam Moundir, is 12-2 on the season, while Javier Jover Maestre is 14-1.

“We were fortunate to add Georgia State so late to the schedule after our match with Troy got cancelled,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “It’s always great to play a top 40 team, but at home is even a little sweeter. This will be our highest ranked opponent at home all year, so I’m hoping we will get a lot of home support from our ODU fans.”

Meet Georgia State
The Panthers are 13-6 to start the season and rank in at No. 38 nationally. Georgia State is currently on a five-match winning streak and defeated Georgia Southern in their last match, 4-1. Of their six losses, five have come on the road. The Panthers have a doubles pairing ranked at No. 80 Zackery Kennedy/Jannis Koeke.

“Georgia State is ranked 38 for a reason,” said Mueller. “They have beaten prominent programs like Florida State and Auburn already this year. We know about their talent level and are excited to match up with a great program like that.”

Meet Charleston
The Cougars are 12-5 on the season and started the spring on a four-match winning streak. In the Cougars five losses, four have been on the road. Charleston is currently on a four-match winning streak. The Cougars will play JMU and Hampton before taking on the Monarchs.

“If all guys come out on Sunday with the right mind set it should be in the good shape,” said ODU assistant coach Sergey Avdeyev. “We are a big favorite. Serving well and playing aggressive from the baseline is the key for our victory. We have to be offensive.”
