NORFOLK, Va. – Lady Monarch lacrosse resumes action this weekend as they travel to South Carolina for a pair of Atlantic SUN conference games. Old Dominion competes at Furman University on Friday, April 7 at 6 p.m. and head to Coastal Carolina for a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. on April 9.

Old Dominion (5-4, 1-1 ASUN)
ODU heads into the two games this weekend after an early season bye from conference competition. They last played on March 26 when the Lady Monarchs defeated Stetson in commanding fashion 15-4.

  • Connor Carson has a team-high 20 goals through nine games. Sophia Richie trails with 14 and Cydney Tutchton is third with 12 goals.
  • Morgan Marrale, a senior attacker, took the lead in assists with nine after recording three against Stetson. She had been tied with Megan Topper (6) for the first half of the season.
  • Natalie Ledwitz has been a strong force on defense for the Lady Monarchs. She is third on the team 20 ground balls, second best with 18 draw controls and holds the team-high 20 caused turnovers.
  • Kerri Caruso has also made noise on defense for ODU. She sits second in both ground balls and caused turnovers with 21 and 17 respectively.
  • Maggi Buckley as given up 91 goals and collected 84 saves for the Lady Monarchs. She holds a .480 save percentage and a 10.17 goals-against-average.
  • Buckley passed head coach Heather Holt (ODU ’95) in the career saves category in the ODU record books against Stetson. Buckley has 390 saves and growing, Holt was sixth with 386 saves.
  • Overall 13 Lady Monarchs have scored at least one goal this season. Eleven have contributed an assist.

Furman (6-4, 2-1 ASUN)
Furman enters the game against ODU on a two-game win streak defeating the two Michigan teams, Detroit Mercy and Central Michigan.

  • Abby Shields leads the team with 21 goals while Paige Gamble is right on her heels with 20.
  • The Shields/Gamble duo combines for 30 total assists, half of the team total.
  • Maggie Friel is the lead goalie for Furman starting all 10 games. She has given up 93 goals with only 61 saves.
  • The Paladins have scored 115 goals this season averaging 11.5 goals per game. Of the 279 shot attempts 206 have been on goal for a .738 SOG%.
  • Furman’s only conference loss is to Coastal Carolina, whom Old Dominion faces Sunday.

Coastal Carolina (6-4, 3-0 ASUN)
Coastal Carolina is a new opponent to the ASUN, joining this season after playing four seasons in the Big South Conference. They currently sit tied for first place in the ASUN standings having gone 3-0 against conference opponents.

  • CCU last played on April 2 and picked up a 12-6 win over Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan. The game against ODU is their only game of the weekend.
  • Sophie Crowther, who has 23 goals, leads the Chanticleer attack, while Courtney Genovese is right behind with 22 on the year.
  • Harley Barrett has been the primary keeper between the pipes for the Chants. She has allowed 77 goals making 82 saves for a .516 save percentage.
  • Barrett was just named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, 4/4.

Series Histories
Old Dominion holds the series lead 3-0 over Furman including a tight 10-9 victory in the semifinals of the 2016 ASUN Conference Tournament. The Paladins will look to get their first win over the Lady Monarchs while, ODU hopes to improve its position in the conference standings in Friday’s matchup.

Sunday’s game at Coastal Carolina will be the first time the two programs have met on the field. CCU is a young program that has yet to cross paths with ODU in the last four seasons.

Looking ahead…
Following the weekend games in South Carolina, the Lady Monarchs travel to the northern most located teams in the ASUN conference in Michigan. ODU takes on Central Michigan on Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m., and Detroit Mercy on Saturday, April 15 at 11 a.m. (all times Eastern).
