NORFOLK, Va. – The Lady Monarch lacrosse team hosts Atlantic Sun opponents Kennesaw State and Mercer in their final home stand this weekend on Friday April 21 and Sunday April 23. Game times are set for 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Lacrosse has several promotions going on this weekend as they wrap up their home schedule. The game on Friday, April 21, is the rescheduled ODU SAAC Championship Effort event where student athletes from sports within the department are encouraged to attend and cheer on the Lady Monarch lacrosse team. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive an ODU Lacrosse tank top and the team will honor six Game Day Professors at halftime.

On Sunday, April 23, the coaches and team recognize the six seniors in the Class of 2017. Game time against Mercer is 1 p.m. and Senior Day events will take place just prior to the starting line-ups and the national anthem.

Old Dominion (6-7, 2-4 ASUN)
The Lady Monarchs look to turn things around after dropping both contests in Michigan last weekend. ODU fell in overtime to Central Michigan 11-10 and 15-8 at Detroit Mercy falling to seventh in the Atlantic Sun with a 2-4 conference record.

  • Connor Carson continues to lead the offense with 31 goals on the season for a team-high 35 points. She also leads the team with 32 draw controls and is T-3rd with 26 ground balls.
  • Carson needs just on draw control to tie first in the ODU records with 173 career draws.
  • Cydney Tutchton and Sophia Richie are tied for second in goals this season with 17 each.
  • Kerri Caruso and Natalie Ledwitz sit third and fourth respectively in the ASUN standings in caused turnovers per game. Caruso has 23 on the season while Ledwitz is just behind with 22.
  • Megan Topper and Morgan Marrale have been leading in assists all season long. Marrale currently has 12 assists to Topper’s 10.
  • Topper is third in the ODU records with 56 career assists and Marrale moved into seventh with 42.
  • Maggi Buckley seems to keep breaking records every game this season. She has 342 career saves entering this weekend, which places her fourth in the records. Buckley is currently tied eighth in career ground balls with 128.

Kennesaw State (7-7, 3-4 ASUN)
Kennesaw dropped their last two contests to ASUN opponents Stetson and Jacksonville. The Owls lost to the Haters in overtime 19-18 and were decimated by the Dolphins 23-2, on the road in Florida.

  • The Owls fell five spots in the NCAA RPI ranks this week sitting at 89 after holding the 84th spot last week.
  • Kennesaw was outscored last weekend 42-20 in the two losses to the Florida conference opponents.
  • Taylor McGhee leads the team with 35 goals while Sydney Farwick is on her heels with 34 goals.
  • Haley Swift sits atop the stats chart for Kennesaw with 56 points off of 31 goals and a team-high 25 assists. Connor Zophy is second in points with 53 on 29 goals and 24 assists.
  • Farwick is third on the team in assists (12), and points (46), but leads the squad with 46 ground balls, 78 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers. She is 1st in the conference with 5.57 DC’s per game.
  • Alex Bunn has played a majority of time in net for the Owls this season at 441:51 minutes and has given up 117 goals while collecting 72 saves.

Mercer (11-3, 6-1 ASUN)
Mercer is on a one game win streak after narrowly defeating Stetson 13-12. Prior to the Stetson game the Bears suffered a 17-4 loss to the ASUN leading Dolphins from Jacksonville.

  • The Bears jumped four spots in the NCAA RPI rankings from 71 last week to 67 this week.
  • Mercer’s Lindsey Zeltwanger leads the conference in assists (41), assists per game (2.93), points (83) and points per game (5.93).
  • Zeltwanger sits second on the team in goals (42), ground balls (34), draw controls (31) and caused turnovers (20).
  • Kate Leone has the team-high 46 goals with 19 assists for 65 points.
  • Haleigh Wurzel has played a majority of minutes in net for the Bears collecting 767:19 minutes of playing time. She has given up 125 goals for a 9.77 goals-against average and tallied 110 saves.

Series History
Old Dominion has defeated both Kennesaw State and Mercer twice since joining the ASUN conference in 2015. In the last encounter with the Owls, the Lady Monarchs won 18-7 at home at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. The Bears also came to Norfolk last year and fell at the Hill 16-4 to the Lady Monarchs who went on to win the conference tournament.

Looking Ahead
The Lady Monarchs hit the road heading to the nations capitol for their final pair of regular season games. ODU faces Howard on Friday, April 28 at 4 p.m. in Washington D.C. and head up the road to Dover, Delaware to face Delaware State at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.
