NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball head coach Jeff Jones announced Greg McClinton as the newest member to the team on Wednesday afternoon. McClinton is a 6-foot-7 forward from Winston-Salem, N.C. and played his first three seasons at Wake Forest. As a graduate transfer, McClinton will have one season with the Monarchs and will be eligible to play in 2017-18.
“Greg’s experience and versatile skill set will compliment our returning players,” Jones said. “We are excited to have him join the Monarch family.”
McClinton was a McDonald’s All-America nominee and was ranked as one of the nation’s top 25 small forwards in the class of 2013 by ESPN.
McClinton played at Winston-Salem Prep before transferring to Hargrave Military Academy for his senior year. He led Winston-Salem Prep to the 2011-12 NCHSAA Class 1-A State Championship and a 31-1 record, while averaging 19.7 points and 10.3 rebounds and was named First Team All-State by the Associated Press. During his senior season at Hargrave, he averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds.
During his three seasons at Wake Forest, McClinton appeared in 85 games and started 27, averaging 2.6 points and 2.2 rebounds.
“I'm extremely excited to join the program,” said McClinton. “Coach Jones and the rest of the staff are great guys and I'm looking forward to next year.”
McClinton joins Marquis Godwin (Hampton, Va.) and Michael Hueitt Jr. (Fayetteville, N.C.) as the newest members to the Monarch roster for next season.
