NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion lacrosse team hosts American University on Saturday, March 11, for the 2017 ODU lacrosse home opener. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Complex. All home regular season games are free entry.

Old Dominion (3-2, 0-0 ASUN)
The Lady Monarchs enter their home opener on Saturday after an 11-8 win at Liberty and week to prepare for American, who kicks off a four-game home stand.

  • Connor Carson and Sophia Richie sit tied for first in goals with 10 apiece to lead the Lady Monarch scoring front.
  • Carson had 12 points this season to lead the team, Richie has 11 and Cydney Tutchton is third with 10 points on eight goals and two assists.
  • Megan Topper has eight points this season from her three goals and a team-high five assists.
  • Five Lady Monarchs are in double-digit figures for ground balls led by Kerri Caruso with 14. Alyssa Sebesto is second with 13 followed by Maggi Buckley with 11. Natalie Ledwitz and Carson are tied for fourth with 10 GBs each.
  • Ledwitz leads ODU in two other categories including draw controls and caused turnovers. The recently repositioned defender has 14 draw controls and forced 11 caused turnovers.
  • Maggi Buckley is averaging 10 saves per game with 50 saves this season for a  .481 save percentage.
  • Buckley leads the ASUN with her .481 save percentage and ranks 28th nationally. She is 20th in the country with 50 saves, holding second in the ASUN. Buckley is also second in the ASUN in saves per game at 10 a game, which places her in the Top-20 nationally sitting at No. 19.
  • As a team the Lady Monarchs lead the conference in caused turnovers per game with 10.60 CTs/G. ODU sits third in save percentage (.476), scoring defense (11 goals/G) and win percentage (.600).

American (0-5, 0-0 Patriot League)
American has started the season off on a rocky foot, dropping all five of their contests to date. In their last match the Eagles fell to the Spiders of Richmond, 15-5, on Saturday, March 4.

  • American has recorded 29 goals through five games while allowing their opponents to score 72 times this season.
  • Jenn DeSimone leads the Eagles with 12 points off her team-high 12 goals.
  • Madison Hoon and Caitlin Schaefer each have five goals apiece to tie for second.
  • Hoon leads the team in ground balls (14) and is American’s draw specialist with 25 draw controls this season.
  • Sophomore Fiona Geier is the primary keeper for the Eagles playing 263:44 minutes in net allowing 60 goals and collecting 48 saves. She has a 13.65 GAA and a .444 save percentage.

Series History
Old Dominion leads the series 21-4 over American in a series that dates back to 1992. In the most recent encounter the Lady Monarchs defeated the Eagles 7-6 in Washington, D.C. on March 12, 2016. ODU enters on a two game win streak in the series over American.

Looking forward…
The Lady Monarchs host the Tribe of William and Mary for game two of their four-game home stand. The two former CAA rivals take to the field on Wednesday, March 15, for a midweek matchup at the Hill.

First draw is set for 5 p.m. and the game is the ODU SAAC ‘Championship Effort’ game and ODU student-athletes are encouraged to attend.
