JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Old Dominion women's golfer Sana Tufail clinched the UNF Collegiate tournament title Tuesday afternoon, placing first out of 87 participants in the field. The Monarchs tied with Daytona State for third place, just one stroke behind the team champions.

Tufail, a sophomore from Abu Dhabi, UAE, shot three-under par for the tournament and finished in sole possession of first place. The individual medalist closed out the three-round event with a 73 on Tuesday, finishing two strokes ahead of runner-up Jiwon Jeon from Daytona State. The first-place finish was the first of the young Monarch's career.

Maggie Simmermacher placed fifth for the Monarchs, improving each day by shooting 76-74-70 (+4), to record her second-best finish of the season.

In a hotly contested team battle, Southern Miss and Memphis finished in a tie for first place, but the Golden Eagles were awarded the team trophy via a scorecard tiebreaker of the fifth player score in round three. The Monarchs tied with Daytona State just one stroke behind (+32) for third place.

Tufail led all 87 golfers with a 3.90 par four scoring average while Simmermacher tied for the second-lowest par five average (4.58). Tufail also sunk 11 birdies, the second-most of any golfer in the event.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action March 20-22 at SDSU's March Mayhem at The Farms Golf Club in San Diego, California.
