NORFOLK, Va. -- Jennie Simms has been named an Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention selection, becoming the first Lady Monarch to earn All-American status since Shareese Grant in 2005, the Associated Press announced on Monday.

Simms is one of just seven non-Power 5 players named an AP All-American, four of which are from No. 1 UConn. Simms is also the first Lady Monarch to earn  AP All-American honors since Mery Andrade in 1999, who was also an honorable mention selection.

The senior guard from Accokeek, Maryland, was the nation's second-leading scorer in 2016-17, averaging a school record 26.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists and was one of just two players in the country to average 20+ points, 8+ rebounds and 4+ assists.

Simms broke school records for career 30+ and 40+ scoring games, totaling 12 games of 30+ during the 2016-17 season, bringing her career mark to 18. She also scored 40+ twice, including a Ted Constant Center Record 43 in the win over Marshall, for a career total of three 40+ scoring games.

The Conference USA Player of the Year, Simms earned her third straight First Team All-C-USA honor, becoming just the 10th player in school history to earn three first team all-conference accolades. ODU's fifth all-time leading scorer in program history with 2,151 points, Simms became the sixth Lady Monarch to join the 2,000 point club and only the third to do so in their first three years on campus.
